With reference to your article, New footpath proves a route to confusion (Oxford Mail, April 1), was this an an April Fool's joke?

This footpath/cycle path has been on all West Oxfordshire District Council's local plans since the 1990s, with pedestrian-controlled crossings in Mill Street.

However, the type of crossing has been changed and the path has been redesigned into a more direct route across the water meadows.

With these council approved changes now in place, the only part of this path that has remained the same is the entrance/exit in West End.

If the district council's homework was wrong, as it now seems to think, why wasn't it corrected in the 1990s, when these plans were drawn up?

How long will it take before a new West End/Hailey road entrance is completed to allow this new council approved path to be reopened officially for the public?
