Oxford United striker Craig Davies has been called up to train with John Toshack's full Wales squad.

Davies, who burst onto the scene at the Kassam Stadium after being given his chance by the Argentine management team, greatly impressed Toshack in two performances for Wales Under 21s against Austria a fortnight ago.

He was sent a letter this week inviting him to train with the senior squad at a training camp in San Sebastian, Spain, from May 17-23.

Davies said: "It's fantastic news. I spoke to John Toshack after the games against Austria and he told me I'd done well, but when I found out that he'd invited me to train with the squad it was great news.

"I am really looking forward to it, but there are still games to play here at Oxford before the end of the season and I'll be doing my best to get into the starting line-up for all of those first."

Davies was on the bench for United's 1-1 draw at home to Macclesfield on Wednesday night, and came on for the last half-hour.

Possessing great pace and strength, he started 12 of the first 13 games in United's attack when Ramon Diaz took over but lost his place following the 1-0 win at Cheltenham on February 19.

And with Tommy Mooney appearing to prefer playing alongside Steve Basham, who links up with him better, Davies has found it hard to get his place back.

But this Wales call-up will be a massive boost to his confidence.
