South West 1: Debutant winger Jez Tanner scored four tries as Oxford Harlequins finished the season with a sparkling 58-11 victory over St Mary's Old Boys at Horspath Road.

Quins opened the scoring through a try by hooker Alastair Halsall from a catch and drive. Centre Andy Noyce added the conversion.

The visitors replied with a penalty from Mike Harroway, before Quins forwards took charge and tight-head prop Paul DeLange drove over for a try, converted by Noyce.

Quins clinched the result in the second quarter with two tries from Tanner, and one from Noyce, who added a conversion.

St Mary's managed just another Harroway penalty to trail 31-6 at the break.

In the second half, Tanner claimed his third try with a long touchline run, Noyce adding the conversion.

Quins' right wing Chris Ashton snapped up a loose ball to power over for a try, before Tanner appeared on the right wing to go over for a brilliant fourth try.

St Mary's left wing Randle scored their only try, but Quins had the final say with tries from scrum half Antony Cope and lock forward Elliott Stephenson, in his last game for the club.

Chinnor dug deep into their playing strength, but still comfortably beat Keynsham 36-18 at Kingsey Road to clinch fourth place in the table.

With Zane Winslade back in his native New Zealand, Craig Burrows hospitalised, Mike Cook injured, Alan Cawston unavailable and Joe Winpenny just fit enough to do bench duty, Chinnor were forced to make five changes from their Oxfordshire Cup final line-up.

They took the lead, when the ubiquitous Cameron Shaw, playing his last game for the club, touched down under the posts, for James Cathcart to convert.

With Chad Ward capitalising on a bout of passing more akin to basketball than rugby, Chinnor found themselves 12 points up after 20 minutes.

Two penalties from Paul Edson, plus a try from their influential No 8 Michael Johnson, allowed Keynsham to narrow the deficit to one point at half-time.

With the breeze at their backs, Chinnor used Cathcart's big kicks to gain ground in the second half, and they they ran in four tries in the last quarter.

The tries were all scored by their wingers. The first came from Ward, while Charlie Oyebade grabbed a brace before Richard Grimsdell, coming on for Ward, scored under the posts.

With Cathcart converting two of thems, Chinnor were home and dry, despite a try for the visitors from Thompson in the final seconds.
