Goalkeeper Chris Tardif has rounded off a magnificent season by being named as Oxford United players' player of the year.

The superbly consistent stopper picked up the trophy at a special players' sponsors and awards evening at the Kassam Stadium last night.

Craig Davies was chosen by the club's management as the young player of the year.

Davies, given his chance by Ramon Diaz and Horacio Rodriguez, has burst onto the scene, scoring six times and earning international recog- nition.

He has been capped by Wales Under 21s and has even been called up by John Toshack for a senior squad training camp next month.

Tardif, who has earned United countless wins this season with a succession of superb saves, was on the verge of quitting the game until former U's boss Graham Rix talked him out of it.

Tardif, signed from Portsmouth where he was languishing in the reserves, admitted earlier in the season: "This move to Oxford has kick-started my career and I want to prove to myself that I can do it at a good level."
