I have read with concern the letters from residents and the reporting and speculative editorial comments in the Oxford Mail over the past week after the flooding in Risinghurst, Oxford, on Sunday last week.
With relatives, friends and neighbours of Knights House residents, I watched with horror the torrent of water as it poured across the Richards Way allotments and into Knights House, turning the road into a river of fast moving water.
I have the greatest sympathy for those affected and their families are quite rightly angered and upset that this had happened not once but twice.
Homes further afield have also been affected in the past. I have also heard that in the days before the events of Sunday week, there were reports of water streaming from Shotover across the ring road.
I have asked for an investigation to establish what went wrong and what steps can be taken to prevent this happening again. Risinghurst deserves answers.
Until the information is available, judgement should be reserved. Speculation at this stage is not helpful.
Meanwhile, my thanks to city and county council staff and all who responded promptly to residents' needs.
DEE SINCLAIR (Councillor)
Quarry and Risinghurst,
