Berinsfield welterweight Robbie Wright bowed out of of the ABA Junior Championships when he lost on points to Lancashire's Hosea Burton in the quarter-finals at Liverpool.

Wright, 17, enjoyed better fortune when he was his club's lone victor when a ten-strong team travelled to Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, Berinsfield's final dinner show this season is at Cowley Conservative Club on Saturday, May 7. For tickets call Mel Corrigan on 01865 341348.

Wolvercote ABC's two open class middleweights experienced mixed fortunes as the club staged their final dinner tournament of the season at Oxford United's Kassam Stadium.

Chris Woods was the star of the show with a fine points victory over Army rival Jay Summers.

But ABA finalist and Four Nations bronze medallist Steve Mullins was sidelined by a chest infection.

A succession of right hands to Summers's head and body saw Woods establish a lead his opponent could not claw back in the final round.

His joy contrasted with Mullins, who said: "I'm gutted because I wanted to box on my club's own show as a way of thanking everyone who supported me during this year's campaign."

Wolvercote's Simon Sutherland stopped Chalfont's Rory Cavehill in the second round of their contest, while bantamweight Lawrence Lewis lost a split decision to Army fighter Chris Sagar.
