OXFORD Harlequins lifted the Oxfordshire Knockout Vets Cup for the first time with a 24-12 win over Bicester in the final at Chinnor.

Bicester opened the scoring with an early try through Granville Williams, but Quins hit back with centre Steve Chadbone going under the posts, and Andy Leyton converting.

In the second half, Quins increased their lead when Paul Neal sent over lock forward James Knox to make it 12-5.

And they stretched further ahead when a fine three-quarter movement was capped by right winger Ben Taylor went over for a try.

Bicester kept their hopes alive when Dave Clayton went over for a try, which Neil Smith converted.

But Quins clinched victory two minutes from time when scrum half Wayne Jones broke through, before sending Andrew Chadbone in for the final try, with Leyton converting.

Quins skipper Lewis Taylor won the man-of-the-match award.

BANBURY Bulls opened their sevens season by winning the plate in the Wootton Bassett tournament, with a 36-0 victory over the Royal Logistics Corps in the final.

Carl Daniels scored a hat-trick of tries, while others came from matt Goode (2) and Richard Jeyes.
