So many young hopefuls turned up at auditions for a youth production of Me and My Girl at Oxford's New Theatre that the organisers have had to arrange a second date.

Wannabe actors and dancers flocked to the theatre on Sunday, April 24, in a bid to secure a part in the musical. Some are pictured, left, waiting their turn to show their talents. Stagehands are also needed for the show, from August 4 to 6.

The second round of auditions is on Saturday, May 7, from 10am at the Old Fire Station studio theatre, in George Street. New Theatre spokesman Joel Barnett said: "We had an unprecedented number of children who auditioned.

"The theatre has continued to be swamped by inquiries and we're delighted to announce that we have another audition day for bidding actors and dancers. We're hoping to audition 1,000 children in all."
