Chris Tardif could not hide his delight at being named Oxford United's players' player of the year.

The former Portsmouth goalkeeper admitted to being surprised at the award, but honoured that his teammates think so highly of him.

In a largely disappointing season for the U's, Tardif has maintained an outstanding level of consistency.

But he now wants to take his game to a new level, buoyed by the award.

"It is a great moment for me, and I am chuffed to bits," he said.

"It means so much that it has been voted for by my teammates, and especially nice as this is my first full season.

"It was a surprise and I am really happy, but hopefully I have got a lot more to come.

"Personally, this is the one thing I set out to achieve at the start of the season.

"There are two or three other targets I haven't made, but I will work harder and longer over the summer and next season to improve even more."

Tardif was quick to praise the work of goalkeeping coach Alan Judge, and hopes that the club can now extend Judge's hours for the next campaign.

"I do appreciate the work that Alan does with me and I just hope that the club see fit to let me work with him more next season," he added."
