May morning in Oxford should be a joyous occasion, with the Magdalen choir singing from the top of the college tower at 6am, followed by merrymaking in the streets.
But so often in the past, it has been marred by the antics of the drunken few.
Revellers who have been at all-night parties have ruined the enjoyment of the majority.
With May morning falling on a Sunday this year, crowds are expected to be bigger than usual, with an increased risk of antisocial behaviour.
We hope it won't happen, and that everyone will be able to control themselves and make it a happy May Day.
One of the most dangerous practices in past years has been for show-offs, mainly drunken students, to jump off Magdalen Bridge into the River Cherwell.
Our advice is -- DON'T!
The river may look deep enough after recent heavy rain, but appearances are often deceptive, and as surgeon Jeremy Fairbank warns today, divers could suffer serious injury.
Don't take risks, keep sober, and let's make May morning a happy time for everyone.
