A social club steward who has been attacked twice in the line of duty has received an award for bravery.

Chris Parrott, 50, was viciously attacked by a gang of teenagers he had seen swinging on football goalposts outside the Morris Motors Athletic and Social Club, Cowley, on March 17.

He suffered fractures to his jaw, cheekbone and eye socket, and lost three front teeth. He also had to have five metal plates inserted in his face.

During the first incident, which happened in November 2003, Mr Parrott wrestled a robber to the ground who had stolen takings from the club.

Last night, (Wed) he was given a silver award at the police' national bravery awards ceremony in Birmingham.

The gang who attacked Mr Parrott have still not been caught and police have issued a description of the main offender.

He is white, aged 17, 6ft tall and slim, with a scar on one of his cheeks and a tooth missing. He was wearing a printed shirt at the time of the attack.

The club is also offering a £1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the attackers.

Anyone with information should call the police on 08458 505505.
