Oxford United right back Dave Mackay looks like leaving the club to return to his native Scotland.

Mackay, who moved south in the summer after Graham Rix signed him from Dundee, has been talking with new United boss Brian Talbot over the past few days about his future.

Talbot admits that it looks as though he is resigned to losing the defender.

"I have spoken to David Mackay, and his wife is a bit homesick," United's manager told the club's website.

"They have a situation where they may both want to go back to Scotland.

"I've told him there is no problem with that if that's what he wants to do.

"I will speak with him again today, but basically it's about finding out what players want. I want players who are happy here."

Meanwhile, Talbot is optimistic that leading scorer Tommy Money will sign a one-year extension.

And the U's boss is waiting to hear back from a number of other players as his squad for next season begins to take shape.

"Tommy Mooney is in negotiations with the chairman and hopefully will extend for another year," Talbot added

"Jamie Brooks saw the chairman yesterday about his situation, and Lee Molyneaux will give me his answer today."

Talbot also had news on three young players.

"Bradie Clarke, Paul Burton and Tom Winters, have all been offered different deals," he said.

"Clarke and Winters have been offered longer term deals than Burton.

"They had already been offered those by the chairman so those offers were honoured.

"Burton had been told we'd like to keep him, but no deal had been sorted out.

"So I've told him that if he comes back in pre-season for a couple of months, I will assess him and be honest with him.

"So we have offered him a pro-contract, but not long term."
