It must look like a scene from Monty Python or Mr Bean.

Residents rush out of their homes at the appointed hour to move their cars from one side of the road to the other.

They go back indoors. Then two hours later, they rush out again to move them back.

The daily farce is performed in roads around the Templars Square shopping centre and Oxford Business Park at Cowley.

Of course, the parking scheme introduced by Oxfordshire County Council has a laudable aim -- to keep out commuters' cars and reserve the spaces for residents.

But not surprisingly, many residents are unhappy that they continually have to watch the clock.

No doubt some of them could save themselves the daily chore by parking in their drives rather than in the road.

But it is ludicrous that such a parking system should be allowed to persist.

Why not introduce a residents' parking scheme, similar to those already in place in other parts of the city?

A similar result would be achieved, without the hassle for those who live there.

The county council has agreed to listen to residents' complaints. We hope it will not only listen but act.
