I wonder if any of your readers remember the Lord Mayor's Parade of 1991.
It was to be cancelled as the Oxford Lions were being charged too much by the city council for the hire of the market stalls.
I rang the Bill Heine programme on Radio Oxford to say how disgusted I was, as this was such a good event and charities could make much-needed money.
I then volunteered to organise it myself, a massive task as there was just six weeks to go.
But with the help of friends, the generosity of the residents of Oxford, and brilliant advertising by the Oxford Mail and the Oxford Star, we organised the best parade ever.
Thousands of pounds were raised for charities at nearly 200 stalls, South Park was full of entertainers and more than 4,000 people attended.
I am sure you can see why I am most upset at what is happening now. I did not even know it was on this year. It is not rocket science. If an amateur like me can organise it, I am sure the city council could have done -- had it been dedicated enough.
If they need a hand next year, then give me a ring.
I and a few other thousand people do not want to see what can be one of Oxford's biggest events die.
