Two former Co-op workers have been jailed for conspiring to rob the store where they worked after masked raiders made off with £31,000.

Rebecca Boaden, of Ashurst Way, Oxford, and Hailey Greenwood, of Littlehay Road, Cowley, were given 12 months in a young offenders' institution.

Boaden and Greenwood had both been cash officers at the store, which was robbed by two men in balaclavas on August 31 last year. The robbers got away with another man in a stolen Montego car.

The women, both 19, were found guilty following a trial at Oxford Crown Court last month.

Boaden had denied delaying a Securicor driver, allowing the whole of the Bank Holiday weekend's takings to be stolen.

During the trial, the court heard that Greenwood had joked with Boaden about robbing the store, after she fell out with a manager and left her job.

She admitted talking to her boyfriend, Daniel Boaden, about the workings of the cash office.

Boaden had also been asked about the running of the store by her brother, Daniel, and his friend, Nathan Bourton.

Her brother, Jamie Boaden, was charged with robbery but was acquitted after a judge ruled there was no evidence against him.

Judge Julian Hall told them: "You are both bright young women, you are quick witted, but you are very immature and very silly and this is a hard lesson you have been taught."
