ABOUT 250 Oxfordshire civil servants who work in Jobcentres, tax offices and courts are planning strike action over proposed changes to their redundancy terms.

Public and Commercial Services Union members will strike on Monday and Tuesday following a national ballot in which 63.4 per cent of the membership backed industrial action.

The civil servants say they are taking action over a Government proposal to alter long-standing redundancy terms.

Mum-of-one Tracey Rogers, 46, from Cowley, the PCSU representative at the Jobcentre Plus, in George Street, Oxford, where she has worked for 22 years, said: “Some staff could lose half their redundancy entitlement, and we will be going on strike to retain reasonable redundancy terms.

"Strike action isn't something we take lightly and we will continue to negotiate for as long as possible.”

Revenue and Customs staff in Banbury and at Oxford Business Park are also set to strike, and there will be picket lines outside most civil service offices in the county.

A spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions, said it was well prepared and, where possible, offices dealing with customers would be open. It is not know at this stage to what extent courts and tax offices will be affected.
