As ONE of those actively opposing the granting of the lapdancing licence to Thirst Lodge, I object very strongly to the tone of Mr Guy Davis' letter (Oxford Mail, March 1).

I am neither “ridiculous” nor “pathetic”, and am not connected to any church. I am proud of my womanhood and sexuality, but am objecting to the granting of the lapdancing licence on the following grounds: Lapdancing encourages men who are disinhibited by alcohol and aroused by naked lap dancers to objectify women Some men aroused in this way will feel freer than they would otherwise have, to leer and make suggestive comments to women, which is threatening to women Women are less physically powerful than men and therefore can be intimidated in ways that some men do not appreciate Women are still being trafficked to the UK for the UK sex industry Being free and being objectified are contradictions in terms Sex-related attacks by men on women are on the rise As a woman and the mother of an 11-year-old daughter I feel Oxford would be a less safe place for all women should this licence be granted.
