Police today released details of a man who has failed to appear in court at Oxford for sentencing on a drugs charge.

Leonard Heta, 22, of Banbury Road, Oxford, was due to appear at Oxford Crown Court on January 29 after being found guilty by a jury of possession of class-A drugs with intent to supply on December 23, 2009.

Heta returned on bail to the court but left before he could be sentenced and subsequently a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

PC Charlie Ellis said: “We found around 20 grams of cocaine at the address where Heta was arrested and, although this isn’t a huge seizure, he has been found guilty by a jury of supplying cocaine.

“We need to bring this man to justice and we are asking for the public’s help to make this happen.”

Heta has links to addresses in Cowley, Cutteslowe and Headington. He is also believed to frequent club and pubs in the city centre.

PC Ellis added: “I am appealing to anyone who might have seen Heta or know where he could be, and I suspect that he may be looking to leave the country to avoid sentencing.

“I would also like to appeal directly to Heta and ask that he hand himself in at the nearest police station as this matter is not simply going to disappear, and we will continue to pursue him until he is arrested and brought to justice.”

Anyone with information that could assist police enquiries should contact PC Ellis on 0845 5 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police and don’t want to leave your name contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
