Sir – I am a member of the Temple Cowley User Group. We were not aware of the council’s meeting of January 13 to decide the future of Temple Cowley Pools — despite the fact that they and Fusion know of our group and have always been able to contact us when it has suited them in the past. How on earth can a decision about closing facilities or relocating them go ahead without actually speaking to the people who are going to be affected? We have tried to speak to councillors on numerous occasions, but they have arrogantly refused to enter into any discussion.

The current location is ideally situated — accessible by various bus routes. This is not the case with Blackbird Leys — there are only two bus routes that run into the estate.

Recently I have started working on The Oxford Science Park and the traffic congestion in Blackbird Leys is terrible — why would the council want to make this worse? I have also used the swimming pool at Barton, which is extremely difficult to get to as it is just outside the ring road —sometimes it has taken me about 20 minutes to just get from the pool on to the main road as the traffic in the area is also terrible —probably because of this, this pool is very much underused.

If the current building housing the pool, gym, steam and sauna rooms at Temple Cowley is not repairable, why can’t another location be found within walking distance of the existing facilities, otherwise all Cowley will become is a huge housing development.
