Unlucky Thirteen for Summertown in Cutteslowe goalfest

This game was switched from Kidlington's ground to Summertown's Cutteslowe Park base due to the former's pitch being waterlogged. Undeterred however, both teams put on a feast of attacking football to share 13 goals, with Kidlington just holding on for an aggregate victory by a single goal.

Summertown - looking like the Arsenal of the U9 Red League with their attractive passing football - completely bossed the first half of the first game and could have been four or five up had it not been for the excellent form of Kidlington defender Judahne Medley. As it was, they had to be content with a well taken Hal Woodall opener. Kidlington got back on terms just before half time with a fine solo goal from midfielder Jude Boag-Matthews. Kicking downhill in the second half, Kidlington had more of the play and secured a 3-1 win with a brace from leading scorer Luca Sykes taking his tally to 20 for the season. The second was particularly notable, the striker crashing a long range free kick into the net having been brought down outside the area.

Both sets of attackers were on top in a very open free-scoring second game, which finished 5-4 to Summertown. Ironically both goalkeepers were in fine form and with lesser mortals between the sticks the game could easily have ended ten all. As it was, Summertown got some reward for their endeavour by scoring their fifth and winning goal in the last minute of the game. Summertown's scorers were James Othen (2), Kyle Orem, Inigo King and Angus Tufnell. Kidlington replied through Archie Littlewood, Ben Stewart, Callum Rolfe and Ben Owen, but had cause to be most grateful to keeper Jude Pike for the saves which guaranteed overall victory.
