A YOUNG Oxfordshire filmmaker has persuaded soldiers to help her attract investors for her new film.

Vicky Jewson, from Boars Hill, made her cinematic debut in 2008 with her romantic comedy Lady Godiva, which was largely shot on the streets of Oxford.

Her second effort, Born of War, will also be shot in Oxford as the city features heavily in the plotline.

Miss Jewson, 22, held a launch event for investors at Summertown restaurant Gee’s on Wednesday.

She persuaded soldiers from the 4 Mercian Regiment to line the streets outside the restaurant in order to greet potential investors.

She said: “They came along with weapons and six men.

“Major Lawrence Crabb from the regiment delivered a short talk on his first-hand experiences in Afghanistan, which was very moving.

“They’ve been very supportive of the film, including giving us access to some top secret Army locations to film in.

“We had a great mix of people attend the evening and things are looking good.

“If all goes according to plan, we are set to shoot in March and the film will be ready to begin releasing in September.”

Miss Jewson said the plot for her new movie was more hard-hitting than the last.

She said: “The film opens against the backdrop of the Soviet-Afghan conflict of 1979.

“A young female Red Cross worker has an affair with a Mujahadeen leader.

“She becomes pregnant and flees Afghanistan to return home to Britain where she can hide the child.

“Twenty years later a young woman, who has no idea of her real identity, enters Oxford University where she is immediately recruited by MI6.”

The film follows the heroine as she is used as a pawn by MI6 and is reunited with her estranged father.

Miss Jewson, who is in the process of contacting actors for the lead roles, is no stranger to publicity stunts.

For the premiere of her last film, based on the legend of Coventry noblewoman Lady Godiva, she persuaded her sister Libby to ride naked through the streets of Oxford on horseback.
