BIN collections in Oxford started again yesterday after being snowed off earlier in the week.

There was a restricted service, with residents in some parts of the city getting collections, and the city council hopes normal service will resume on Monday.

Spokesman Annette Cunningham said: “Residents in Oxford are being asked to leave out any rubbish that has been missed due to the bad weather conditions. We will endeavour to run a limited collection service where possible.

“Plans have been put in place to make sure that all refuse and recycling, except garden rubbish, will be collected.

“Collections were postponed earlier this week due to very slippery conditions making driving and walking treacherous.

“Our refuse and recycling crews have been redeployed across the city to clear snow and grit roads and pavements in high-footfall areas of the city and other key areas. We are constantly reviewing the weather situation and expect to be operating a service from Monday, weather permitting.”

In the Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire, waste and recycling collections are expected to start again on Monday, weather permitting.

West Oxfordshire District Council has suspended its waste and recycling collections and said it will start them again when it is safe to do so.

Residents across Cherwell are being asked to leave their rubbish out for collection if it has been missed this week.

Plans have been put in place to make sure all refuse and recycling, except garden waste, is dealt with – but it must be accessible to crews when they arrive.

Collections were cancelled on Wednesday, Thursday and yesterday due to slippery conditions making driving and walking treacherous.

A revised bin and recycling timetable has been issued starting this week and further details are available on the council’s website, cherwell.gov.uk
