A SCULPTURE garden in North Oxford has reached its 10th anniversary.

The Turrill Sculpture Garden, behind Summertown Library in South Parade, was launched by Katherine Shock in 2000.

Sculptors have been using the public space to showcase their work ever since, and Ms Shock said there would be a series of exhibitions this year to celebrate the 10th anniversary.

She said: “Ten years ago, I had been living in Brussels for a year and I came back to Oxford and visited Summertown Library.

“I noticed for the first time that there was a garden outside and asked if we could turn it into a public space for sculptors.

“Since then we have held a series of special exhibitions every year.

“This year we will be holding a number of special exhibitions including one involving schools in June.”

The garden currently features a winter exhibition featuring artists including Mike Bigland, Marie Boyle, Ray Castell and Pat Elmore. It runs until February 27.

The garden can only be accessed during library opening hours.
