Police fired a taser at a man after being called to a disturbance in Oxford today.

At about 3am today, officers were called to an address in Westbury Crescent, following reports of a disturbance.

When officers arrived they were confronted by a man, aged in his forties, armed with a knife.

Chief Supt Brendan O’Dowda said: “Taser was deployed and the man was disarmed and arrested.

"He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where he has undergone surgery for a stab wound. His condition is described as serious.

“The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and post-incident procedures are now in place to provide support for all those involved.”
