Forecasters at the Met Office said severe weather in Oxfordshire was caused by 'flash snowstorms' that came in from the east.
Drivers were stuck on the A4130 between Wallingford and Henley last night, and the AA laid on extra patrols in the county as calls to the service doubled.
A spokesman for the Met said: “Oxfordshire suffered quite badly because of the way the land lies and fronts brought in from the Atlantic Ocean."
