Fears were raised tonight over the future of The Gap charity for the homeless after a report urged the city council to stop funding it. The centre, in Park End Street, will be “decommissoned” if councillors act on the independent report.

Up to 60 homeless people use The Gap every day. It offers them food, advice and a number of courses to help get them back on their feet.

The same report also urged the council to drop its £10,000 funding for The Gatehouse homeless charity in St Michael’s Street, although bosses said it would not close.
