Two men have been arrested on suspicion of theft following an incident at Linear Fisheries in Hardwick, near Witney, where an angler had items stolen while he slept.

The men, aged 21 and 19, were arrested in Cheltenham by officers from Witney on November 11 on suspicion of stealing several thousand pounds-worth of fishing equipment on September 5. This included three carp rods, a sonar box, three alarms, a front rod rest and a matrix bank stick.

The men have now been bailed to return to Witney police station on January 30, 2010.

Det Con Adrian Brooksbank said: “We have seen other thefts of this type where fishermen have been targeted by thieves and I would urge anyone with information about these offences to come forward and talk to us as soon as possible.”
