THE Princess Royal arrived at Dorchester Abbey tonight to help celebrate the Coming of Christmas at a candlelit service.

The event, in its 15th year, is in aid of the charity Hft (formerly the Home Farm Trust), which supports people with learning disabilities.

Comedian and impressionist Rory Bremner and actors Robert Hardy and Juliet Stevenson read Christmas prose and poetry to the packed Abbey.

Music was provided by the choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, conducted by Daniel Hyde.

Hilary Colbert, regional fund development manager for the charity, said: “We were honoured to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to our celebration again this year.

“Our warm thanks to Rory Bremner, Robert Hardy, Juliet Stevenson and to the choir in lending their talents to make this event so special.”

Proceeds will go to Hft’s Byte Size Learning project in Oxfordshire, which trains people with learning disabilities for employment in the catering industry.
