I DO not wish to appear to be paranoid, but the Christmas lights in the city centre, especially those in Cornmarket, appear to be more Islamic than Christian.
You will look in vain for any Christian symbol but there are Islamic symbols aplenty; the crescent moons and the host of stars dominate the displays.
Is this a deliberate policy or merely ignorance on the part of the city council?
For a Christian festival in a Christian country (where the census – the only reliable figure – identifies nearly three-quarters of the population as Christian if only nominally) the public decorations should indicate that preference.
