WALLINGFORD’S Christmas lights were switched on tonight in the town’s first ever Edwardian evening.
The town centre was transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with ice rink in St Leonard’s Square, a nativity scene by the Town Hall and horse and carriage rides around the town.
Shops stayed open until 9pm.
In a revival of a tradition dating back to Edward II, Mayor Dee Cripps, who switched on the lights, started the festivities by hanging a white glove on the town’s Christmas tree.
She said: “It’s been a wonderful night.”
