OXFORD United is hoping to raise more than £100,000 a season from a new membership card being launched tomorrow.

The card offers holders discounts with more than 100 local, national and international organisations – ranging from the RAC to Butlins in exchange for a flat fee which will be ploughed straight back into the club’s coffers.

Commercial manager David Jackson said: “The idea is to generate important income for the football club to help us break even for the first time in many years. We wanted to bring something into the community that everyone can be involved with.”

The card costs £30 a year.

Discounts are also available for under 16s, pensioners, members of the armed forces and for bulk purchases.

Mr Jackson added: “We are also looking for businesses to buy cards as a reward for staff.”

Management, players, club sponsors and firms which have taken part in the scheme will gather for the official launch today at the Weston Manor Hotel, Weston-on-the-Green.

A special promotions team, the Yellow Angels, will also be hitting Oxford city centre to hand out information.

The card will be available from the club ticket office from today and can also be ordered by telephone.
