AN ANNUAL Christmas event being held in the city tomorrow night has helped raise more than £250,000 for cancer victims.

Over 13 years, the Celebration of Christmas concert has raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Each year the concert, which is held at Christ Church Cathedral, in St Aldate’s, features celebrities who read poems, prose and sing festive carols to mark the occasion.

This year’s spectacular will welcome back Emmerdale star Freddie Jones, who has read at every Celebration of Christmas event, alongside newcomers actress Diana Quick and Alex James, ex-bassist with pop band Blur.

Mr James, who now farms in Kingham, near Chipping Norton, said: “I’m really delighted to be supporting the Celebration of Christmas.

“I’ve always supported Macmillan and am looking forward to reading and being part of what will be a wonderful evening."

After the concert, there will be a reception in Christ Church for guest celebrities and the Macmillan Nurses of Oxfordshire.

Organisers said they hoped to raise about £30,000.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 8pm, are still available and will be on sale on the door for £15.
