A HOST of celebrities will help a cancer charity celebrate Christmas at a special event tomorrow evening.

Macmillan Cancer Support has invited Emmerdale star Freddie Jones, actress Diana Quick, and Alex James, ex-bassist with pop band Blur, to be celebrity readers at its 13th Annual Celebration of Christmas event at Christ Church Cathedral.

The stars will read Christmas poems and prose and, after a service led by the Bishop of Dorchester, the Rt Rev Colin Fletcher, music will be provided by the Schola Cantorum choir.

MacMillan fundraising manager for Oxfordshire Stella Krajewski said: “We are so excited about this year’s event as we think it will be the biggest and best yet.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to our celebrity readers who are giving up their time to take part and, by doing so, helping us raise much needed funds for people living with cancer.

“We’re hoping this event will raise in excess of £30,000 and help support cancer services across the county.

“We still have a few tickets left but they are going fast and we are anticipating a sell-out.”
