What is one to make of this week’s Key Stage 2 results published by the Government? The fact that fewer schools achieved a clean sweep of 100 per cent of pupils at level 4 in Maths, English and Science is neither here nor there as these results are usually achieved in smaller schools where it does not take much to cause a significant statistical change.

On the whole, Oxfordshire appears to be performing at or where it has for some time, ie around the national average. Everyone accepts Oxfordshire should aim to do better.

What was encouraging was that a majority of schools achieved added value figures of 100 or more.

Whatever the actual level of results achieved in a school, that is a mark of success. It demonstrates that a lot of hard work has been done by pupils and teachers.
