A 14-year-old boy has been handed a three year Anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) after a court heard he has been abusive, threatening and violent towards residents and neighbours.

Sandeep Kumar is banned from parts of Saunders Road and Weymann Terrace, in East Oxford, and must obey a night-time curfew.

The teenager, who lives in Saunders Road, was given his Asbo by Oxford Magistrates Court on Friday, November 27.

The court banned the publication of Kumar’s photograph.

Leaflets will be distributed in the local area to advise residents of the Asbo but they will also not be allowed to contain his photo.

During a day-long hearing, the court heard from witnesses and neighbours that Kumar was abusive, threatening and violent towards other residents for the past two years.

Insp Graham Sutherland said: “Anti-social behaviour can have a big impact on people’s quality of life and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated in my neighbourhood.”

The magistrates ordered that the teenager could not go into the Saunders Road area, use threatening, intimidating or abusing behaviour at any member of the public, or be seen in a public place between 7pm and 7am unless accompanied by an adult defined by the order.

Councillor Saj Malik, Board Member for Safer Communities, says: “This Asbo will protect people from this teenager’s threatening and intimidating behaviour.

“I urge residents to report any breaches of the Asbo to the police or to the CANAcT team.

“This Asbo sends out a warning to others that Oxford City Council will not tolerate anti-social behaviour and we will take action against those who commit it.”

The Asbo will remain in place until November 2012.

If Kumar breaches the order he will be taken before a court and could be sent to a youth offenders institute for two years.
