Sir – Your East Oxford correspondents (Letters, November 26) need to think again. Residents’ parking between Iffley and Cowley Roads will make things worse.

It will cost residents £50 a year, plus £15 for visitors permits, to park their car. But there will be fewer places to park.

The Magdalen Road Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), as now proposed, will force drivers to park on pavements where now those pavements are free of cars.

Iffley Fields residents have already campaigned successfuly to be excluded from the zone.

Hundreds of local residents have already signed a petition opposing these CPZ plans. The county is again consulting local people and it is important that everyone, whatever their views, tells the county what they think.

Residents can find out more at: http://myconsultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk or contact Joy White, Senior Transport Planner, Oxfordshire County Council, Environment and Economy, Speedwell House, Speedwell Street, Oxford, OX1 1NE Tel:01865 815882 Email: joy.white@oxfordshire.gov.uk We support car restraint and welcome the designated spaces for the car club. But tackling dangerous parking on corners and stopping vehicles obstructing the pavement would improve things much more for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
