IN REPLY to Liam Sloan’s story Soldiers not let into pub, I would like to ask who the hell the staff at the Cross Keys pub think they are, stopping servicemen going into their pub to have a meal or drink, just because they are in uniform?
Have the staff no respect for members of the armed services? They should hang their heads in shame.
I am really disgusted at this sort of action and think somebody ought to get a petition going to have the pub’s licence taken away.
Also, pub chain Punch Taverns need to get their facts right as RAF Brize Norton insisted it had not written to any pubs asking them to refuse to serve staff if in uniform. It was only last year that Prime Minister Gordon Brown said soldiers should be encouraged to wear uniform in public.
I served seven years in the army and was very proud to do so.
Two or three of us always went drinking two or three nights a week and always wore uniform – and we were always welcomed in every pub.
