IT WAS disgusting that two of our serving soldiers were treated so very badly at the Cross Keys in Witney (Oxford Mail, November 20). How would the people concerned have felt if it were their sons or brothers?

These men had fought in Iraq and Afghanistan and should have been applauded instead of refused entry. It was terrible.

The people responsible should join me at the repatriation ceremonies in Headley Way and watch and pay their respects. Then, perhaps, they would realise where these soldiers have been each time. It’s heartbreaking.

The two soldiers concerned were not on a night out in uniform, but on their lunch break – and to be refused a meal is dreadful.

I salute the people in the other public house who offered to pay for their meals. I would have done the same.

The Cross Keys said no one was allowed in wearing uniform. Does this mean that if a fight broke out in their pub, the police would be refused entry? Or the fire brigade? Or the Ambulance Service? I think not.

So, please, Cross Keys, make a large donation to Help for Heroes and an accompanying letter of apology to the two soldiers concerned. Then think how you each would feel if it happened to you.
