A 53-year-old woman has died after a car crash on the B4022 near Witney.
The woman, from Finstock, was driving a black Vauxhall Astra which collided with a red Volkswagon Golf on the stretch of road between Charlbury and Fawler at 5.43pm yesterday.
Fire crews from Chipping Norton, Charlbury and Kidlington cut both drivers free from the wreckage using hydraulic lifting equipment, but the woman later died at the John Radcliffe Hospital at 9pm.
The male driver of the Volkswagon was taken to Banbury’s Horton Hospital. Police said he was expected to undergo surgery this morning.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
It is the second fatal accident on the road this year.
Motorcyclist Robert Smith, 46, of Hailey was killed when his motorbike and an Audi A4 collided in April, just half a mile from his home, near to the Crawley junction.
