A WANTAGE shopkeeper says he has been left with memory loss after he was assaulted in his own shop.

Father-of-four Troy Thomas, 45, said he was repeatedly punched and kicked in the head in front of customers.

He said a man walked into TTR Motorcycles, in Hans Avenue, at 12.10pm on Tuesday, went behind the counter and rained blows on him.

Mr Thomas said: “He ripped the door off its hinges, came behind the counter, kicked me, pulled me down and upper-cut me about four times.

“There were blows to the ribs and he kicked me in the head. He wouldn’t have stopped unless a customer had pulled him off.”

Mr Thomas said the attacker then got in a waiting car, and drove away.

His back, ribs and face are bruised, and he said he needed X-rays for suspected fractured ribs.

Mr Thomas said: “The doctor told me that the injury to the brain where I was beaten about so much would take about six months to go.

“The memory loss is happening all the time. One moment it’s short-term memory, the next I cannot remember my mother-in-law’s name.”

  • Police said a 29-year-old man had been arrested at Abingdon police station yesterday, on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm. No charges have been brought and the man was bailed to return to the station next Thursday.
