Sir – I welcome your front page news of the University’s Iffley Road plans (Report, November 12), but I am concerned that there is no mention of a dance studio on the site.

The Report of the Committee to Review University Sport (June 2009) acknowledged the great interest in dance within the University and the inadequate provision for dance at University level.

The report rightly identified dance studios as “much-needed facilities”.

At present, many dancers from the University rely on using unsuitable spaces in colleges, or depend on church halls and community centres in the city. This increases the pressure on the limited facilities available to the local dance community. A high-quality University dance studio at the Iffley Road site would benefit both University dancers, and the local community by offering a facility that would simultaneously enhance the practise of dance by staff and students, free-up more dance spaces for local dancers in the city and provide Oxford with the first-class dance studio that we currently lack.
