Sir – As we approach the ending of analogue television and perhaps radio too, I wonder if digital broadcasting for Oxford is going to be improved. Although digital television is generally fine, there are long periods when, at less than two kilometres from Carfax, I am unable to receive ITV, Channel 4, and a few other non-BBC channels.
In the case of the radio, advertised as so superior to FM, it is indeed less sensitive to movement within the room, but there are occasions when the digital signal almost disappears, or would require very careful repositioning of the aerial, so that one really has to resort to FM.
I wonder if other readers, perhaps further from the transmitter than I am, agree that digital alone in its present form would not be entirely satisfactory.
