Police are warning that a pair of burglars are preying on elderly pensioners and distracting them in their homes to steal cash and jewellery.
The homes of three pensioners – in New Yatt, Witney; Girdlestone Road, Headington, Oxford; and Oxford Road, Kirtlington – have been targeted by burglars, and police have warned householders across the county to be vigilant.
Det Insp Chris Sharp said: “We believe these incidents could be linked. I stress that the water board does not exist, so if people knock at your door claiming to be from this company then don’t let them inside.”
Pensioners are also advised to chain their doors, and to demand to see ID.
