Sir – Your very engaging picture of Richard Speed (October 29) must have brought back happy memories to many of your readers who attended his summer schools.
He had an extraordinary gift of bringing together people of different gifts and nationalities, enabling them to enjoy each others’ company over his wife’s lunches, in the intervals of (hopefully) improving their skills at painting/potting/hat-making etc. He was a life-enhancer.
