YOUNG people in Oxford have been discussing the benefits of shunning drugs, sex and violence in favour of a better lifestyle.

A two-day workshop held at the weekend, saw young members of the Word Fountain Christian Ministries, in Hollow Way, Cowley, talking about the ‘dangerous’ messages sent out by popular music such as hip hop, rap and R‘n’B.

The Live Strong, Live Well workshops, were held as part of the church’s annual Children and Youth Celebration.

The celebration is organised by the church to encourage its young members to make healthier lifestyle choices.

More than 60 young people took part in dance and drama workshops and debate, and listened to a performance by the Lordside Family.

Tobi Adepegba, 18, from Headington, helped organise the workshop. The first year student, said: “It was about getting young people to consider how they live their lives.

“We discussed things like drinking, taking drugs, violence, and sex.

“We also discussed how different types of music can influence young people.”

Dupe Adefala, who is pastor of the evangelical church, said the annual events empowered young people to say ‘no’ to negative influences.
