A BICESTER hairdressing salon has raised more than £400 for charity by going ‘punk for pink’.

Mohicans, safety pins, and ripped jeans were the look of the day as staff from Gemini Hair, in Kingsley Road, raised money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The salon holds an annual pink day in aid of the charity, which funds research throughout the UK into the disease.

Salon manager Charles Tracoshas said: “We had a great time — it was a huge amount of fun. The customers really enjoyed it too.

“We support the charity by wearing pink every year but this year the staff made such an effort and I think it really paid off.

“Many of our clients have been touched by cancer and it is one of the reasons the salon does these charity days.”

The salon took donations throughout the fun day on Saturday and also held a raffle.

Stylist Lauren Scarrott, 18,said all the staff were more than happy to take part.

She added: “We all thought it was a great idea as it was something a bit different, and it’s a bit more fun than just wearing pink.

“The clothes got a lot of people who were passing by interested in what we were doing as well.

“Some of the team used to be punks, so it was just a matter of them dusting off their old wardrobe.”

Chris Askew, director of fundraising at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: “It’s great to see people joining forces to raise awareness of breast cancer.

“The funds raised will help Breakthrough Breast Cancer to continue vital research at our dedicated research centre and at the new research units we have opened this year, as well as ongoing campaigning and education work.”
