IT IS with great interest that I read about the impact of the new 20mph speed limits (Oxford Mail, September 2)).

We should all be pleased that, after all these years, the county council has come to see the importance of this type of service delivery.

It was as a new county councillor, in 1997, that I put in a request for a 20mph limit on behalf of residents in Littlemore.

Based on many years’ experience as a nurse in casualty departments in Oxford and elsewhere, it was necessary to speak out about trauma resulting from road accidents.

Several site visits to determine need for 20mph zones were done.

It has been said that many people still worry about being killed when crossing the roads because of speeding.

Having this type of speed limit means leaving home early to get to your appointment without having to speed up.
