AN ANNUAL classic car show will be able to go ahead after it found a new site when the original venue went into administration.

The Cowley Classic Car Show, on Sunday, August 16, was due to be held for the second year running at the Lord Nuffield Club, in Cowley, Oxford, until it was taken into receivership.

Malcolm Fearn, of organisers Isis Rotary Club, said the receivers wanted a “four-figure sum” for the use of the field at the club, which, as a charity, they were not prepared to pay After contacting Oxford City Council, it offered the use of Court Place Farm, in Marston, Mr Fearn said: “We are disappointed that the Cowley show is not in Cowley, but extremely grateful to the city council for finding us a new home. The exhibitors will be extremely pleased.

“They really enjoyed last year’s event, being able to talk about and look around each other’s vehicles.

“They will have a great time.”

In addition to a wide range of cars – most built locally – the event will include Bletchingdon Silver Band, a range of children’s entertainment, and refreshments.

Last year’s event raised £1,300 for a permanent Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre at the Churchill Hospital.

Mr Fearn said the Rotary Club hoped to beat last year’s total.

City council events officer Steve Jebbett said: “We were contacted by Mr Fearn asking if we were able to help.

“As the car show celebrates the tradition of car-building in Oxford, we thought it was important to keep the event local.

“With the help of the parks department, we were able to offer the use of Court Place Farm.

“It was a pleasure to be able to help.”

Mr Fearn added: “It means out charitable event can go ahead as planned. We will not need to disappoint the exhibitors, and people in Oxford can look forward to a great day out.”
