As one of the organisers of the Rose Hill Summer Fun Day that took place on June 27, I wanted to say thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to help us make this day happen.

We couldn’t have managed without you! I’d also like to say thank you to all of you who came and joined in with the day – the atmosphere was brilliant and we couldn’t have asked for better weather (my burnt skin is like well tanned leather!).

This event was organised and put together by three volunteers, myself, Tracey Forsyth and Linda Cummins.

The other girls won’t ‘blow their own trumpets’ or sing about what they’ve achieved so I’d like to do that here.

They worked tirelessly, for no money or glory since the beginning of March to make this day work. So if you attended this event and had a good time – tell them about it, pat their backs and say ‘well done’.

Not many people would give over so much of their self or lives so selflessly for the good of their community and the people they live with.

If you didn’t have a good time, please let us know what you feel could be improved.

On that note, we’re hoping to make this event an annual one that happens every summer and we’re going to be looking for people to help. So if you have any ideas or if you’d like to get more involved please let us know!

I’d just like to give a quick mention to some volunteers who turned up at the crack of dawn to help set up the gazebos, trampolines, bouncy castles, put out tables, arrange stalls and run around before we opened the doors. Our lovely hubbies, Scott and Brian, Gemma Barrett, Alison Nicolls, a really lovely lad called Robert Fay – who rode in on his bike about 7am and stayed all day to help, Rafa, my lovely friend Jilly Bullock, my boy Alex, Ryan Simmons who came in the early hours and Luke Jackson; these 13-year-old boys worked relentlessly and they just got on with it without a hesitation or complaint.

They’d heard that we needed help and just turned up off their own backs! It was this and the fact that so many of our elderly residents joined us for the day that really made it all feel like a community event.

May it be the first of many!
