THE BMW Cowley Mini plant will be open tomorrow for its first Sunday shift since 850 agency workers were made redundant in February.

Tomorrow’s shift is the first of a number of occasional Sunday shifts for the plant and will involve 250 extra agency workers, who have been taken on to help cope with a recent rise in orders for the car.

The weekend shift was scrapped in February after sales of the car dropped dramatically last year.

On Monday, staff at Cowley will be celebrating as the 1.5 millionth Mini rolls off the production line.
